Historical Production Timeline of the Mustang Motorcycle

1945 Colt 5 different prototypes made on 12" rims with a Villiers 197cc engine.
1946 Colt Around 235 produced using 8" wheels and a Villiers 125cc engine.
1947 - 1949
First American made motorcycle to have telescopic forks. Gladden purchased Busy Bee manufacturing they made small industrial engines one of these engines was made into the new Mustang Engine. They also started using the 3 speed Burman transmission. Stopped building Villers in early1947 and the engines were no longer available.
1947 Colt

Only made the 1st part of the year

1947 Model 2 12" rims, 9.5 hp. the carb faced the rear tire it had a one piece gas tank and was the FIRST American made motorcycle to have telescopic forks.

1954 - 1958
Stopped Factory Racing AMA made a rule change you must use 16" wheels or larger. Colors: Matador Red, Dark Blue or Black. Wheel Rms: Cream. Colors after Sept.1st 1954: Matador Red Black, Condor Yellow, and Malibu Blue. Wheel Rims: Silver Grey.

Colors for 1955: Matador Red and Black. New for 1955: Condor Yellow and Malibu Blue. Wheel Rims: Silver Grey.

1956 Model 5 Delivercycles production ceased due to costs and demand. Colt returned to the lineup.

Mustang offered a Dellorto Conversion kit for Cushman owners. Bulletin #131 June 4th Folding Kickstarter Assembly available. Dellorto carburetors first used.

1960
Colors Rocket Green and Lustre Black with a pin stripe March 1st Folding Kickstarter sold as accessory only $9.75. Sold only as Dealer installed accessories up-pipes, front brakes and folding kickstarter etc. Safety bar and speedometers are the only factory installed options. April 25th Thoroughbred first scheduled prod. week of May 9th it replaced the Stallion. Handle bars raised for Thoroughbreds used on all bikes. 5 hp. engine for Pony and Thoroughbred only. Fenders became narrow. Amal carburetors no longer in use.

Colors Brilliant Red, Rocket Green, Galaxy Blue or Lustre Black Trail Machine only Yellow Galaxy Blue wasn’t in the first sales Brochure Stable for 1961 it was added in the Brochure Line for 61. Stallion returned to the Line up. Thoroughbred. Heavy duty spokes first used April 1961, Dip stick block introduced May 1961. Grooved tank strip added July 13th, Metal tool box appeared in September. Stallion and Thoroughbred come standard with a chrome flywheel and a folding kick starter. October 1st Thoroughbred heavy duty hydraulic shocks are standard. Trail Machine added to the Lineup.

April 1st Dellorto announced a price increase their first since 1958. May 1st parts price increase, last price list printed March 1, 1961. May 1st Thoroughbred tool box metal only and decreased in price. Oct. 25th Delivercycle Started production again w/4 speed tranny - same price as 1955, November 15th first delivery date.

Mustang Motorcycles discontinued production in 1965. After that, a few folks like Don Orr continued to (re) build and sell mustangs, only a handful have been reported to exist, no one knows for sure, and most are "custom", or unlike any of the above models.

Mustang Motorcycle Sales Sun Valley California.423 chrome parts. First production run was to be 200 Stallions.

Don Orr bikes built in late 1970 early 1971. Believed to have built 6-50(?) bikes, some with Van Sol paint jobs. Most were Stallion and Broncos, but he did make one Pony. Complete stock of parts 48 thru 65

1972 Circle Industries bought the rights to Mustang with plans to start production.
43,000 lbs of parts sold to Roy Stone, then most sold to Larry Seymour, then dispersed/sold again to several folks, one being Alan Wenzel.
